Face-To Face Learning Challenges Facing The Online Classroom
Face-To Face Learning Challenges Facing The Online Classroom
In a broad sense, online means any electronic device that is online and connected to several other computers, including a network, another computer or even a printer. More recently, however, the word online has also come to refer to connected using the Internet. There are many types of online services and programs. Examples of these are shopping sites, news sites and blogs, email services, online stores and more.
Some of the more popular ways for online students to learn include registering for online schools that offer online classes and web-based learning. There are many ways for online students to attend virtual classes. They could be attending class from a library in person, in the classroom, on their laptops, on remote network, etc. The only requirement for online classes is a computer with an internet connection and a good grasp of basic English. Some people have difficulty with the concept of online classes, while others flourish in them.
Another type of online learning is called blended learning programs. Many colleges, traditional public schools and universities offer blended learning programs where there are some face-to-face classes combined with some online classes. In blended learning programs, students take courses online and then complete the same course(s) in a traditional classroom. There are advantages and disadvantages to both options. For instance, some traditional public schools are reluctant to make students turn in assignments and papers by email because they view this as a form of electronic paper stealing.
However, online courses provide a great option for distance learners who do not have access to traditional classrooms. Moreover, online school provides opportunities for traditional public schools to provide their high-quality, adult education programs. It is becoming common for high schools, junior high schools and middle schools to offer online courses as part of their regular curriculum. This enables these schools to maintain strong educational standards, while also providing their students with greater flexibility, and a more convenient way to study.
Perhaps the biggest challenge for traditional public schools is that they must maintain a face-to-face interaction with students. Online schools provide virtual classes; however, face-to-face interaction is still a critical component of their curriculum. Some research suggests that face-to-face class attendance may actually reduce the achievement gap between students from different races, ethnic backgrounds, genders and abilities.
As more traditional educators work to create more convenient, effective and affordable methods for teaching, many online teachers are embracing the available technology. One advantage of online learning is that students can take the course at their own pace, so long as they meet the requirements of the class. Although online modules are often more detailed than their counterparts, online courses usually require only reading, writing, basic math and science skills. And online students often have the opportunity to participate in online forums or discussion groups, or even exchange assignments with their fellow online students.
